Strategies for Waste Collectors and Segregators
1Training and Support Programs: Provide training or support programs to assist waste collectors in adapting to changes in waste collection and segregation methods.
2Integration and Alternative Livelihoods: Ensure fair integration of waste pickers into the formal waste management system or offer alternative livelihood opportunities.
3Partnerships: Create partnerships between WtE plants and waste collector communities to establish a mutually beneficial relationship.
4Engagement and Understanding: Engage with and understand the needs of waste collectors and segregators to minimize adverse impacts and facilitate a smoother transition to WtE plants.
Project-Wide Strategies
1Environment and Social Policy: Ensure the Project’s Environment and Social Policy encompass Human Rights requirements.
2Stakeholder Engagement Plan: Establish and actively implement a Stakeholder Engagement Plan, incorporating regular reviews and updates based on stakeholder feedback. This is crucial for providing ongoing support to vulnerable groups.
3Workforce Understanding and Grievance Management: Ensure all workers, including contractors, understand their roles in engagement and grievance management processes. Enable anonymous grievance submissions for workers, including those employed through the Project’s supply chain.
4Community and Worker Grievance Mechanisms: Implement mechanisms for stakeholders to express concerns via written and verbal communication, ensuring vulnerable groups understand their rights and avenues for communicating grievances.
5Supply Chain Policies: Develop and implement policies across the Project’s supply chain, encompassing labor management, community relations, and supply chain expectations. These should be embedded within relevant contracts, including those with EPC contractors.
6Employment Practices: Enforce employment practices that prevent discrimination, conduct age checks during hiring, and ensure workers' access to their identification documents.
7Compensation and Working Conditions: Ensure workers receive appropriate and timely compensation based on national standards and industry benchmarks, with transparent contracts outlining working hours, breaks, and holidays.
8Safeguards in Recruitment: Establish safeguards when using recruitment agents, including oversight of recruitment fees, and ensure workers are not placed in debt. Educate workers about their rights during the induction process.
9Outline of measures for continuous monitoring and improvement.
